When Matt and I purchased WhisperGLIDE a little over two years ago, one of the things that really attracted us to the company, was the potential to generate emotional profit created by the sheer joy and happiness from those who use our products. While the previous owner had provided us with a three ring binder of very heartwarming stories and testimonials, they did not fully prepare us for what we were about to emotionally experience.
Soon after taking over the reins of the company, we were contact by the Wisconsin Make-A-Wish chapter. They were looking to fulfill the wish of a young single mother that had two children, the oldest being a wheelchair bound, nonverbal special needs child. Her wish was for a WhisperGLIDE wheelchair accessible swing that would allow the three of them to do a shared activity in their backyard that would be equally enjoyed. As the conversations progressed and it looked like there was a real possibility that the wish may materialize, Matt took a drive to go visit the mother. He wanted to make sure there were no unforeseen obstacles at the residence that would prevent the wish from happening and to gain a true sense of the situation.
As part of the final arrangement, Matt offered to deliver and set up the swing. The time was coordinated so the assembly of the swing would be completed before mom and the kids arrived home in the afternoon. Local Make-A-Wish volunteers arrived with helium filled balloons, a big red bow, some gifts for the younger brother and the boys’ favorite items from McDonalds. They made sure it was going to be a GREAT surprise celebration for all. Everything was in place when the family arrived back home. While the short YouTube video Nathaniel's Make-A-Wish Swing captured some of the sheer bliss of joy, Matt said it was nowhere near what he witnessed that left a huge lump in his throat and struggling to maintain his emotional composure. The family’s wish may have been granted, but for Matt, the dream of experiencing tremendous emotional profit had come true and continues to fuel his pure passion and quest for more.
