How long does it take to assemble the swing?

It takes two people approximately 2½hours to assemble the swing.

Does the swing REQUIRE a level surface?

YES! The glider must be on a hard, level surface in order to swing smoothly. An uneven surface can cause glider damage and void your warranty. Also, the lock-up receptacles need to be mounted on a solid surface. We recommend a level concrete pad due to its durability and not shifting over time. Further surface options are properly installed large patio pavers, level asphalt or a sturdy wood deck.

What is the shipping lead time?

Swings will typically ship in 2-3 weeks after receiving the order.

How is the swing shipped?

The swing is shipped via common carrier in eight(8) cardboard boxes that are banded and shrink wrapped to a 48”x 95” wooden pallet. The shrink wrap and banding can be removed allowing the boxes to be unloaded individually. The shipment weighs 550# and special arrangements can be made to unload it off the back of the semi-trailer.

Do you ship to Canada?

YES! We ship to all the provinces in Canada.

What prevents the glider from moving during entry and exit?

Two lockup shafts, one on each side of the swing, provide a secure interface with the lock-up receptacles mounted to the ground.

Does the swing need to be fastened down?

Yes. The Swing Fasteners Kit includes 3/16"X 1-1/2"anchor screws plus a concrete bit for drilling the screw holes for the swing legs and lockup receptacles.

Will the WhisperGLIDE rust?

No. The frame and seat end castings are aluminum, the hardware is either stainless steel or bronze. The steel seats, platform and ramp are fully encapsulated in a durable, UV resistant vinyl coating that is used in playground equipment.

How durable is the paint?

The powder coating, using electrostatics, is bonded to the metal and cured in a 400°furnace. This technology provides a hard durable and scratch-resistant surface that can withstand the harshest outdoor elements.

Can a WhisperGLIDE swing remain outside in the winter?

Yes, however, removing the canopy and cushion will prolong their lifespan. Also, by covering the seats and swing floor with a plastic tarp will provide protection and reduce spring cleanup.

Can the WhisperGLIDE be placed inside?

Yes! In many areas of the United States, care centers are placing swings indoors, which results in year-round use, regardless of weather or time of day.

What causes the WhisperGLIDE to swing?

The hallmark of theWhisperGLIDE is its easy gliding motion. To ensure a quiet, smooth ride, we use self-lubricating, full-length bronze bushings and stainless steel shafts. Thus, you can swing either by gently moving the table safety handrail with your hands or by pushing on the swing platform with your feet. Since the entire platform swings, the wheelchair remains in a level position during the gliding motion, thus all swing occupants can enjoy the same swing motion simultaneously.

“The RockerGLIDE is a big HIT here! We placed it outside for the summer. The glider is a great asset by giving residents a comfortable place to socialize. The rocking action is soothing and relaxing. ‘I love to meet my friends by the swing!’ They line up every day. Due to its demand, we sometimes have to put up a sign up sheet, just to make sure all get a turn! They absolutely love it and are proud to show it off to their visiting families.”
- Michael Lorenz, Housing Director
The Alton Memory Care, St. Paul, Minnesota

“The RockerGLIDE is a very cost-effective way to reduce agitation, which is common in dementia. Residents gravitate to this great gathering spot. It it just plain fun!”
- Sharon Claflin, Nurse Manager
Wealshire of Bloomington, Bloomington, Minnesota

“Frequently we transfer wheelchair users onto the RockerGLIDE. All who use it love the experience. Their smiles tell the whole story!”
- Michelle Zieger, Program Supervisor
Midwest Special Services, A Training and Day Care Center, St. Paul, Minnesota

“I LOVE the new RockerGLIDE! The constant motion simulates the cerebral cortex, thereby increasing a person’s ability to focus and concentrate, and assists them to relax. Gliding can help decrease agitation. Constant gliding motion helps those with pain, dementia of any kind, and a number of other conditions. We are all looking for ways to decrease psychoactive drugs, and relieve pain. Gliding is an answer!”

Sensorimotor Components

  1. Sensory Awareness: Opportunity to receive and incorporate sensory stimulation reception and differentiation of sensory stimuli.
Sensory Processing
  • Tactile: Interpretation of touch received through feet, long leg muscles, back, hands, as the swing moves.
    • Proprioception: Reception and interpretation of stimuli responding to muscles, joints and other internal tissues as the body weight is shifted in a forward and back motion, giving information about the position of the body in relation to its parts and overall self awareness of one’s body in space.
    • Vestibular: Movement of the head receiving input from the inner ear receptors regarding appropriate head positioning and movement.
    • Visual: Increased awareness from objects, persons and the overall environment due to increased stimulation as the swing moves.
    • Auditory: Increased awareness of changing source of sounds as the swing moves.

    Neuromuscular Motor Components

    1. Range of Motion: Body movement, especially if active movement is involved including moving onto or off the swing plus the action of swinging.
    2. Muscle Tone: All body muscle movement adds tone depending on the degree of tension or resistance experienced in a muscle or muscle group.
    3. Strength: Dependent on amount of actual involvement in the propelling of the swing.
    4. Endurance: Dependent on the time factor of swing use.
    5. Postural Control: Response to positioning of the body on the swing seat, the body’s center of gravity placement, appropriate weight shifting.
    6. Gross Motor Coordination: Exhibited when moving into, out of the swing and also if involved in the swing’s overall movement.

    Cognitive Components

    1. Level of Arousal: Increases overall stimulation resulting in possible increased alertness.
    2. Orientation / Recognition: May provide an increase in overall orientation and awareness, promoted by an integration from the swing’s sensory stimulation.
    3. Attention Span: Continued focus on the activity of swinging, the persons present and the environment may be increased because of the pleasantness and sensory stimulation of the movement.
    4. Memory / Reminiscing: Excellent source for reminiscing of past enjoyment of swings. their location, persons involved, time of year, etc.

    Socialization Components

    1. Provides activity to interact with others, increasing possible awareness resulting in activating interpersonal skills.
    2. Stimulus for promoting conversation and increased socialization because all persons gliding are seated at eye level.
    3. Shared Meaningful Activity: A possibly successful opportunity that requires only “being there”.
    4. Appropriate Non-Verbal Activity
    5. Anxiety Reduction: Swinging usually provides a calming motion.
    6. Apathy Refocusing: Compels the initiation of movement.
